Captain’s notes – Captain’s Day

Dear Ladies,                                                                                                                                                             Thank you so much for your kindness and support last Saturday, and also for the many lovely cards and gifts you bestowed on me.                                                                                                     The morning was promising with everything in place for the competition and our ladies arrived in good spirits and raring to go.  However, the day was marred by some nasty weather and many ladies were drenched.  Leopardstown closed the course before the competition was completed.  It was bitterly disappointing for all concerned after the wonderful effort made by so many.  A replay is scheduled for July 2nd.  (See notice board in the locker room for further details).

Fortunately, the sun shone for our evening event which was held in the elegant surroundings of the National Yacht Club.  It was indeed heartening to see the ladies arrive, refreshed and bedecked in their finery with many sporting Gatsby attire!   A lovely evening ensued with good food, wine and music.  Our chef for the evening had the onerous task of choosing the best dressed lady and I was reliably informed that he has a good eye for an elegant lady!  The lady was,  Catherine Murtagh who captured the Gatsby look and exuded style and elegance.     The best dancer was Mary T. Murphy chosen by the band leader during a rendition of the Charleston.  I enjoyed the evening and hope our ladies did too.

Well done and thank  you to all concerned.

Kind regards,

Dolores

Lady Captain’s Day and Dinner

Ladies,

I hope you are enjoying the magnificent weather and that those of you  on holiday are having a wonderful time.  But, has the weather peaked too soon?  Let’s hope not,  as our big event of the year,   Lady Captain’s Day is coming up on June 11th.  It would be greatly appreciated if you could make payment for the dinner to Margo,  our treasurer or any member of the committee before the night,  if possible,  as this leaves more time for our committee to enjoy themselves.

As regards to our Gatsby theme, there is no pressure to come looking like Daisy Buchanan,  it is entirely optional and attire is at your own discretion.

Looking forward to seeing many of you there!

Dolores

Charity Day and Captain’s Day

Dear Ladies,

I was delighted with our Charity Day last Saturday.  The weather was magnificent and there was a very good turnout for the competition with other members joining us for the raffle in the afternoon. Our honorary guests included Rosemary and Mireilla with their guide dogs “Clint” and “Crunchie” who proved to be a great hit.  I think we all enjoyed Rosemary’s heart-warming stories of her longterm and faithful guide dog “Clint”.

My thanks to our committee who were outstanding on the day and to all of you who donated prizes, bought raffle tickets,  sent in donations, and helped fundraise.  Many thanks also to Dorothy Grey and Linda Galligan who pledged their donations from Bank of Ireland.  A total of €2800 was raised for The Irish Guide Dogs For The Blind.

Our next big event is Captain’s Day on the 11th June.  There will be an 18 hole and 9 hole competition with lots of lovely prizes to be won.  Details of the event and the entry list are posted on the notice board in the locker room.  There will be a draw for tee-times and I will enter competitors’ names on the BRS system.  You may log in as usual on the BRS from Monday 6th June to check your tee-times.

Dinner will follow in the evening at The National Yacht Club,  Dunlaoghaire with a bubbly reception at 7.45pm and dinner with wine at 8.15pm.  It promises to be a glittering event with a Gatsby theme.  So, don your best bling,  add a feather boa, headband or  a string of pearls. I’m looking forward to a great attendance on the day and later on for dinner.

Kind regards,

Dolores
